Ahhh the beach…I never knew how much of a beach junky I was until I moved to New England. My family frequently went to the beach when we lived in Florida, but I was teeny weeny at the time and only remember throwing seaweed at my dad.
It wasn’t all beach festivities during the past week in Ogunquit, Maine, there was also a lot of knitting, games, and some poking around at an antique mall. I was inspired by Lauren of Lladybird to dig and see if I could find some vintage kniting and sewing books and patterns.
This looks like a book my mom has in her knitting stash from the 1970’s. I especially love that it’s “featuring” Red Heart Yarn, a time when it was considered ok to knit a sweater out of itchy acrylic. My favorite pattern was a “Chanel” jacket with seed stitch front band and embroidered flowers on the pockets.
I found a trove of vintage sewing patterns, including the above Anne Klein ascot-fabulous blouse. I almost bought a cute dress pattern circa 1969 with buttons up the side and a funky neckline, but decided it was too much of a hassle to size down the pattern. Now I wish I had bought it…
Well, it’s back to reality today. Back to work for the long haul through the crazy Christmas season…my next vacation won’t be until February. Here’s to hoping I can squeeze in as much knitting and sewing in the coming months as possible!
