Want to see my entire wedding dress, head-to-toe so far? I finally put together the complete video I made a few weeks ago with some commentary on the construction process, some obstacles I ran into, and what the next steps will be in completing my dress. This is a bit of a longer video but I think it illustrates better what I’m trying to do versus writing a long post with a lot of photos.
Let me tell you – choosing a pattern (Marfy) with no instructions has been quite the challenge, but I’m honestly enjoying it. Using such a pattern for a garment like a wedding dress is not for the faint of heart!
Your dress is beautiful! I really like the embellishment you chose. It has just the right amount of being something very special, without being overdone. I am enjoying watching it all come together. You will be a beautiful bride!
Before you hand stitch all that Georgette try this hemming method that I use…
Stich a line all around the hem 1/4in from the edge.
Fold the fabric to the wrong side along this line of stitching and stitch again about 1/8in
Carefully trim the excess fabric as close to the stitching as you can.
Fold again and stitch one more time … if you can over the previous line of stitching.
The result should be a perfect narrow flat hem exactly as you would find on a shop bought garment 🙂
Try it out on some scrap fabric…. it works great around curves too.
Oh and in the UK we would call the flower embellishment a ‘corsage’ 😀
