Me Made May 13 – The Last Week (finally posted!)

Sassy knit top #mmm13 #mmmay13Post-pool outfit. Last day of #mmm13 #mmmay13

Since it’s oh, JUNE, I figured I should get around to posting my final outfit pics from the last week of Me Made May.  I’m glad it’s over – I don’t know how these fashion bloggers do it, pulling outfits together and shooting photos everyday.  I wasn’t even doing it everyday, like some of my sewing compadres, and I don’t even know how they managed to get through!  Whew, another Me Made May down.

The last week of May was hell for me – I had major craziness going on at work for a corporate visit and worked about 60 hours that week, so it was a bit of a stretch finding time to pull together me-made outfits that would translate to work attire.  I did so on one day, with an easy knit top under a black cardigan, but that was the extent of trying to work sewn stuff in to my work wardrobe.  The eyelet top was worn on May 31, the very last day, post-work and pool relaxation.

Day 1: Fandango top, Target cardi
Day 2: Calvin Klein Inspired top, Tommy Hilfiger shorts

What did I learn this year?  I’m a jeans and tee kinda gal.  Yes, I live in my dresses in the warmer months and love to wear them, but when the temps are still kinda cool (seriously, wtf May, you were cold), I like being able to throw on a comfy top with some skinny jeans and calling it a day.  Oh, and layering pieces – I need more knit cardis! It was a lot easier this year to meet my goals that I set, which makes sense since I’ve made more garments since last year, but I still have the same holes in my closet that I did last year: not enough coordinating separates.

With that being said, off I go to make a comfy Scout tee.

Ikea ready #mmm13 #mmmay13

You know how I said last week was easy?  This past week wasn’t!  I think it has something to do with the fluctuating weather…it was a gorgeous 80 degree day on Monday when I wore my Tracy Reese dress (albeit with crazy rain storms) and then it was a chilly 50 degree day on Saturday, which prompted me to pull out my Cape Cod cardi and jeans for an Ikea shopping trip.

I’m on the home stretch…don’t know how well I’ll do this last week, considering I bummed around in my PJs all day yesterday with a nasty cold.

Me Made May 13 – Week 3

Dresses are so easy to wear #mmm13Self-drafted knit top, jcrew cardi, gap skinnies #mmm13 #workoutfit

Does this count? Poly chiffon turned into a scarf #mmm13Threw on a me-made dress today because it was so warm out! This is my fourth me-made this week on a goal of three #mmm13 #mmmay13

There’s a saying that if you don’t like the weather in New England, wait a minute.  Seriously, this weather has been so schizophrenic that you never know what the temps are going to be like the next day, which has made dressing for Me Made May a little more challenging this year than last in terms of planning out what to wear for the week.  This past week, surprisingly, was easy for me to wear more than my quota of three me-made items for the week – I actually wore five, but I’m only showing four here (need to take final photos of my seahorse skirt!).  I even incorporated a top into my work attire one morning.

What I learned this week: I’m still reaching for the things that I wore last year during Me Made May, which I guess is a good thing, because my style and tastes haven’t changed much.  I also have a hankering to throw on my Tiramisu dress quite frequently because of how easy it is to wear.  I better make a couple more for the summer!

Top Row:
Day 1: Tiramisu dress
Day 2: Self-drafted peasant-like top, J Crew cardi, Gap pants

Bottom Row:
Day 3: Scarf (poly chiffon yardage, I finished the edges), Alternative Apparel top
Day 4: Tracy Reese dress

Flea market day #mmm13 #memademay13 #colettepatternsNothing too exciting, just a simple knit top #mmm13 #memademay13Swirly print dress and turquoise cardi #mmm13 #memademay13

“I, Lucinda of Sew Wrong, sign up as a participant of Me-Made-May ’13. I endeavor to wear at least one me-made item three times a week during May 2013.”

So far, so good for Me Made May ’13.  This week I seemed to have a penchant for my black and white printed garments, which I’ve made a lot of – I ran into this last year as well.  I guess I was also hung up on blue and added some blue garments in to give my outfit a pop of color.  I will admit: the “three times a week” thing is challenging me to figure out a way to incorporate a me-made piece into my work wardrobe or at least to put something me-made on when I’m home from work during the week (for those of you who don’t know, my work dress code is all black, but I can layer a black cardigan or jacket over a colored top).

MMM13 Day 1: Ginger Skirt #mmm13Renfrew Dress with jacket, ready for the farmer's market #mmm13 #memademay13

From left to right: Ginger skirt (yet to be blogged!), Missoni Renfrew dress

Week one of MMM ’13 is over, that is, if you can call it a week.  I wore two me-made garments in the first four days, which I think is pretty good, considering my goal is to wear three a week.  The above skirt is a sneak-peek of a Ginger skirt I made during my Sewcation last month, the other is my Missoni Renfrew dress that I wore this morning to the local farmer’s market.

How’s your Me Made May going so far?
