Webs: Truly an Experience

This past Thursday, since I had the day off from work, I took the opportunity to drive to Webs in Northampton, MA to see their retail store in person. If you have ordered online from their website, you know that they have a ton of yarn to choose from. But it’s nothing like what they have in their store. When I walked in and was immediately overwhelmed at not just the size of the store but the amount of yarn covering the walls and stacked throughout the aisles. There was so much that I had to ask for help because really, I had no idea where to begin. Plus, their warehouse is open to the public, so there was even more yarn in the back I had yet to see! I spent a good two hours in yarn heaven, and walked out a happy knitter with a large bag of yarn in hand for many projects.

Ravelympics Entry – Complete!

Ok, so I started this for the Ravelympics competition last month during the summer Olympics, and sadly I did not finish it in time. But! This definitely was the fastest I’ve knitted a scarf on needles smaller than US 17.

Braided Cable Scarf

Pattern: Chunky Braided Scarf
Yarn: Cascade Pastaza (2 skeins)
Needles: US 10.5 and 11

I finished this about a week ago (Labor Day maybe?) and I can’t wait to wear it with my tweed coat. But let’s not rush the cool weather, shall we?

First Squirrel Mitten - Front

After about six months of hibernation, I pulled out these babies last week while I was traveling since they are so portable and my Pink-ina needs some frogging. I forgot how fun these are to knit! I’m just at the point where I need to shape the top of the mitten, and then it’s on to the thumb. Maybe I’ll get these done for fall…

Pink-ina Progress

Pink-ina Lace, originally uploaded by sewwrong.

I’m about 2″ in on my Pink-ina, but it is going along a lot more smoothly than when I last attempted this pattern back in 2006. At that time, I was using Lara Endless Summer Collection from elann.com, and boy was it splitty! It made the lace pattern very difficult to do and not enjoyable at all. I pretty much had sworn off lace at that point. But now, with the delicious Rowan 4 Ply Cotton, knitting this tank is a breeze. It’s got great durability and slides easily on my needles, and doesn’t split when I knit with it. The lace pattern is pretty easy to memorize, so I can sort of watch tv while I knit. But the only thing is, knitting this on US size 3 needles, this baby is going to take a while to knit. At least it’s enjoyable.

Somewhat Cowl – Detail, originally uploaded by sewwrong.

Well, I tried to take some photos of my finished Somewhat Cowl. This was the only somewhat ok photo that I got out of about a dozen (then my battery died). If we didn’t have thunderstorms and big clouds rolling through all day, the lighting probably wouldn’t have been an issue. I guess I’ll have to try again tomorrow to get some better shots.

I got the yarn for my Pink-ina this week and started working on it last night. The lace is slow going, but it’s easy to memorize. The color, Cheeky, is absolutely a joy to work with and a nice change than having to stare at black all the time.

Pink-ina Yarn

I’ll probably have a photo of the lace after the weekend is over. And hopefully, some final sweater photos of the Somewhat Cowl.
