Vacation Sewing

The snow has been getting to me this winter.  We’ve really been overdue for a winter of lots of snow, since we’ve had a some relatively mild winters in the past two years, but I keep counting down the days to spring and green grass outside.  I don’t think I really understood the point of winter vacations until I moved to New England.

So, Chris and I are headed south to Florida in a few weeks!  We’re staying at a fancy schmancy hotel in Orlando (yup, that’s it up above!) and we’re going to do nothing but lay by the pool and read all day, sip some margs, and enjoy the warm weather.  Of course, my brain immediately turned to possible sewing projects to make for our trip.

Lonsdale Dress – remember this pattern that Sue gave me last year?  I think a Lonsdale Dress will be perfect to throw on over a swimsuit or for a stroll down the Universal CityWalk.

Georgia Dress – this dress is so smoking, and I didn’t have any idea where I would wear this until we booked our trip.  On Saturday night, we’re going to a luau with Polynesian food, live Hawaiian music, and hula dancing.  How about this dress for dinner, in maybe a fun hibiscus print?

Kwik Sew Bikini and Coverup – I want to make another swimsuit this year and this Kwik Sew bikini seems like a totally accessible, easy swimsuit to sew (and fit!).  Plus, there’s a cute coverup that comes with the pattern that looks pretty quick to make (I found some Elie Tahari resort collection knit lace fabric at the store that would be perfect!!).  I love this pink and orange foliage print from The Fabric Fairy for a possible bikini.

Well, here’s to hoping that my vacation sewing plans make it feel a little bit warmer here in Boston!  Do you have any winter travel plans coming up?

I love warm vacations, it's been a few winters since I've gone away and the weather this winter is just awful!! Thanks again for the Lonsdale pattern 🙂

How fun – the Georgia dresses I've seen popping up have been gorgeous! Just beware: Orlando is in Central Florida, and it was in the 40s when I visited there last December. Looks like it may be a bit warmer now, but expect 60s and even some rain. Of course, that might just seem cold to a CA girl!

I think I'm going to order some fabric off of gorgeousfabrics.com for the dress, but I definitely need to trace/muslin this pattern fo sho. Thanks for the tip about the weather, we're going the first few days of March, and looking at the weather averages online, it should be in the 70's. Nonetheless I will pack layering pieces! I'll take 60 degrees any day over these temps in the teens that's happening here right now.
